Profile: Seems like a very open person, and is, as long as you dont ask about his
childhood. Anything in the last 10-15 years he doesnt care to talk about, and is
more than willing to. He always has a piece of advice to offer, often seeming to know more
than he should for his apparent age. Most people don't realize that they actually know
almost next to nothing about him, because of how often he'll talk to them about personal
things, but never actually tell them a thing about himself. It's a quality he's proud of,
and tries to keep in practice with.
Background:
Conrad was born into Chrysalis . All he knew until he was 10 years old was that
he had been taken from his birth mother, because his father was Chrysalis and had wanted Conrad to grow up as a
Chrysalis agent, despite the fact that his birth had not been planned. His father had
enough sway in Chrysalis to have the child taken and brought to him soon after birth.
Conrad went through the Chrysalis
basic training up until the age of 16. At the time his father was one of the higher ups of
Chrysalis from the sector in London. He learned that his mother was a resident of New
York, unaware of what had happened to her son. She knew he had been kidnapped from the
hospital, and suspected his father, but she had not proof and went back to New York. When
he turned 16, his father pulled him from the regular chrysalis thug training, because he
wanted his son to be more then that.
At the time Conrad was his only
son, and he had yet to marry, so hopes for another child anytime soon were slim. He
thought of Conrad as a type of project, never stopping to consider Conrad feelings, for that fact that he might be
smarter then the average Chrysalis agents breed to be nothing more then guards for the
elite. Even though his hopes for Conrad were for him to become one of the most intelligent
in Chrysalis, he didn't seem to have free will added in with intelligence when he thought
of his son. What he wanted was a child who would say "Yes Sir" like the men he
surrounded himself with. What he got was Conrad.
Conrad
was trained to be one of the scientist in Chrysalis , after his father used all his influence to have Conrads career
path in Chrysalis changed. However, Conrad hated it. While he picked up on it all quickly,
and was at the genius level, he didnt find it interesting. He found that he got more
enjoyment out of field work, actually going out and doing things, and he was good at it.
He talked with people easily, and he liked the work where he had to deal with the cover
stories and such more then any of the working in the labs.
He seemed doomed to be a lab
technician, helping the different Chrysalis scientists with trying find the secret to
eternal life. These were the projects that he was most involved with, as he was on the
list to be in one of the test groups should they find something new, although Conrad was
not made aware of this, and worked in ignorance of what they had planned for him.
When he reached the age of 23, Chrysalis had a
breakthrough in their research, and Conrad was taken as part of a research group to test
the new drugs on. 10 were
taken during the night, unaware of what was going on, and locked in the labs for testing.
They all struggled while held in the labs, but Conrad was one of the first to relax, as there was nothing they could do
about it, and they stood a greater chance of survival if they didn't fight as much. They
were also given more freedom if they cooperated.
They trials were somewhat of a success, and most of the group virtually
stopped aging, except for the 6 of the 10 that died soon after the first dose. The
treatment was to be refined after that, but Conrad had decided at this point that he had
enough with Chrysalis.
Though he was grateful for the fact that his life span had been extended to an
unimaginable point, he despised the way they did it, and the fact that could do it again
if they wanted to.
He started to play the perfect son for his father,
who immediately suspected something. At first he thought it was just that the treatments
had changed his outlook on Chrysalis, but he soon discovered his son's plan to leave
Chrysalis, and search for his mother in New York. He kept it to himself so that he could
confront his son about it, and try to stop him before reporting him. When he did confront
him, Conrad knocked him out, and locked him in a closet to be found long after he was
gone.
With the connections he had, he managed to escape
the Chrysalis building, and the country before
they even realized he was gone. He was now 25, and he went in search of his mother, who he
found, after a year of searching, had moved to Yakima Washington after years of searching
for her son turned up absolutely nothing.
He found her and told her who he
was, but his story on where he had been didn't fly with her. After their first meeting she
told him never to come back. He did anyway and after many fights, she slowly began to be
less hostile and after a year she finally accepted the story, and him. He took care of
her, though he was often away for long periods of time.
He
had became a mercenary for hire. He lied about his past to
'sell' himself to employers, telling them he came from a rich family that had sent him to
join the armed forces when he had turned 18, and that he'd escaped and was now doing this
for a living. He used this excuse to hide himself and his mother, and to explain where he
learned everything he knew with weapons, and other things he seemed to know that he shouldn't have.
He as a way to get enough money to keep his mother comfortable, and to find
a way to keep tabs on Chrysalis through the connections he made in the criminal world. He
knew theyd want him back, and he made sure to keep where his mother and he were as
secret as possible, even changing both their last names to Williams.
Despite the name change,
one agent did find them, though it was on accident and he didn't even truly realize who he
had stumbled on. He just thought he had discovered a Mercenary who had been known to kill
Chrysalis agents. He got into their house one night, and tried to kill Conrad's mother,
but he came home before the Agent could complete the job.
They fought, and the man
managed to shot him once, and even slice down his arm, but Conrad, thanks to Chrysalis
tampering, managed to fight him off and throw him out of the second story window of the
house, killing him. He and his mother left Yakima, and moved to Portland Oregon, where
they once again managed to become almost non-existent to the rest of the world.
Conrad used his connections to
procure the drugs he needed to prevent aging, trying to finish the 25 year long program
that the drugs required to complete their process. He'd taken a few supplies with him after leaving Chrysalis, but had
also stolen information from the computers that explained how the process could be
finished, and they ways they were working on to cut down the the 25 year time line, though
none were applicable to Conrad as the old way of administering the treatments had already
been started six years before.
While hating Chrysalis for the way
they went about go about things, he still thought their technology and knowledge was
worthy of his interest, and whenever an opportunity to steal some from them presented
himself, he took it, acquire a large amount of data on them. He used most of it to his
advantage, though he had to be careful about what he did and didnt use, and it could lead Chrysalis right
to him.
His mother died when he was 33, on his birthday. He came home to find her passed out on the floor
of their home, and despite all his efforts he couldn't revive her, and neither go the
paramedics that arrived in response to the 911 call. It was discovered later that she died of a heart
attack.
Soon after the funeral he moved to L .A., as her real identity was soon discovered
along with his, and he couldnt be sure who would show up. He continued his mercenary
work, finding little joy
in it anymore. It was fast loosing it's appeal, and life seemed to be one long boring
procession of people he knew dying. And then Conrad met Eadoin Madden.
Eadoin was still just starting in
the world of crime, and hadnt yet become a name that most criminals knew, and Conrad
used that to his advantage, becoming a friend and employee of the man, pretending to be
younger, and much stupider, then he actually was, which turned out to be amazingly easy.
Through Eadoin he could keep track on what was happening in the world of Chrysalis, and
stay out of trouble until he felt like getting back into it.
The one thing he hadn't planned on was Erin Durning. She saw right through his act, though she never
asked him specifically what it was he was hiding. She used Conrad as a confidant to
complain to about Eadoin, and even used him at times to get Eadoin out of dangerous
situations.
Eadoin noticed the strong bond that Conrad and his
wife seemed to share, and he didn't really like, though he never mentioned anything. He
never thought anything was going on, but he didn't want anything to start. He started to
bring Conrad more jobs to keep him away more often, which didn't go unnoticed by Conrad,
he could tell that things were changing in their friendship, and started to only show up
when Eadoin and Erin were in trouble, keeping himself busy other places otherwise.
Then came the day when Erin left Eadion. After
Conrad got Eadoin out of immediate danger and somewhere that he would be safe, he went to
check on Erin. She was in rough shape, and refused to take any money from Eadoin to help
herself. Conrad helped her with his connections to get a job, even though it was with a
group that wasn't exactly 'legal'. She didn't mind, and was grateful for the help and
opportunity to support herself. He helped her to leave the country as well, keeping Eadoin
off her tracks, as he was attempting to find her in his efforts to get her to come back to
him.
After the Erin situation was dealt with,
Eadoin became someone that Conrad did not want himself associated with. Eadoin became more
worried with finding someone to spend the night with than getting his job done, not that
he had every really been a business man. Conrad broke his ties with the man after Eadoin's
many attempts to get Conrad involved in the same type of lifestyle as him, often
commenting on how Conrad acted more like he was an old man then his real age.
Conrad was tempted many times to tell him
the truth, but in the end left without a word, though he still occasionally contacts the
man, keeping him from selling any information on him, and buying information on Chrysalis.
He's gone back to his life as a hired mercenary, though it still doesn't hold quite the
appeal it used to.
He no longer has the need to take every job
offered him, he's become high enough in the world, and rich enough, to be
able to pick the jobs he wants, though usually he sends his time in bars,
meeting new people, only to disappear on them the
next day. He doesn't want to be come close to anyone, because he knows that
everyone he meets will eventually die, and there's nothing he can do about
it, as he'll outlive them all. He's mostly accepted his fate, and choose
most of his missions based on if they will hurt Chrysalis in some way, or do
some kind of good. Almost a way to atone for the things he's done in his
life. |
