He is loyal to a fault, and very vengeful toward anyone who hurts those he is loyal to. Family is very important to him. He has a big heart, but he also has a hot temper, which makes him endearing to his friends but dangerous to his enemies. He is very impulsive, which tends to get him into trouble.

Background: Carlos grew up in the slums of Tijuana. His early years were happy and carefree, but as he grew older he began to notice the poverty his family lived in, and started to long for something more.

When his father lost his job, Carlos began to take odd jobs around the area. Carlos gradually found himself taking shadier and shadier jobs, until he was given his first 'steady job' by a small-time arms dealer. He had a knack for the business, and eventually ended up taking over his former employer's position when the man was killed by a competitor. He used some of the money he earned to help support his parents, although he did fairly well for himself money-wise as well.

At the age of 24, Carlos was already making several million dollars a year. He had a nice car, a nice house, and his parents were content (although they often wondered where he got his seemingly unending supply of money). He thought he was completely happy. And then he met Mireia Santiuste and his entire world was turned upside down.

Carlos and Mireia fell in love fast and hard; Carlos asked Mireia to marry him just six months after they first met. Three months later they were happily married... that is, until Mireia discovered exactly what Carlos did for a living. She was furious, and asked him several times to quit. However, he could never bring himself to follow her request.

Two years after their marriage, Mireia found out she was pregnant. Both she and Carlos were ecstatic, although the arms dealing continued to be a source of tension between the two of them. When their son was born, they named him Juan, after Mireia's father, and they lived in relative happiness for several months.

Carlos brushed them off, since he had received death threats several times in the past. However, when Mireia began receiving death threats as well, Carlos was severely shaken. He began to assign men to guard his wife and son at all times, and the pressure and tension quickly became more than Mireia could bear. She packed her bags and started to leave, taking Juan with her. However, she was gunned down just as she arrived at the airport, along with her guards and the driver of the taxi she had taken there. Juan, miraculously, was unhurt.

Mireia's death affected Carlos intensely. He convinced his mother and father to take Juan, and then did his very best to estrange himself from them, not wanting to endanger them like he had endangered his wife. He has spent the last five and a half years trying to figure out which of his competitors was responsible for gunning down Mireia so that he can exact his revenge, and has not even seen his now seven-year-old son in almost two years.
